Deep Creek Art and Wine Festival
If you’re looking for a splash of culture with a local twist, come out for the Deep Creek Art and Wine Festival September 9-10. The festival kicks off on Friday evening, with select wine pairings at several of the area’s top restaurants! The main event takes place at the Garrett County Fairgrounds on Saturday. Savageman Triathlon
Are you savage enough to tackle the Savageman Triathlon? Marking its 10th year, the event will be showcasing all new events to their series. With several combinations split across the two days, plus relay team options, there is a race for every caliber of athlete! The race begins at Deep Creek Lake State Park with an open water swim, and then the biking and running courses branch out from there, weaving up and down the Western Maryland Mountains. Autumn Glory
The 49th Annual Autumn Glory Festival will be held October 12-16. This jam-packed weekend is filled with local events and activities scattered throughout the county. Highlights of the festival are the Fireman’s Parade (Oct. 13), the Grand Feature Parade (Oct. 15), multi-day craft shows, and scenic driving routes. There's no better way to celebrate our highly acclaimed fall foliage than spending a weekend enjoying community festivities, whether it's racing pumpkins at the ASCI whitewater course or enjoying drinks and live music. Christmas in the Village
Located in the Spruce Forest Artisan Village, Christmas in the Village is an amazingly unique experience for locals and visitors! Each building is set up with separate local artisans and vendors, selling everything from locally made soaps to masterfully crafted steel sculptures. Walk across the historic Casselman Bridge adorned with lanterns and stroll through the beautifully lit village. Christmas in the Village draws hundreds of guests every year, even the Governor of Maryland!
Winterfest
Walk through a completely transformed downtown Oakland during Winterfest weekend! Taking place every President's Day Weekend, Oakland Winterfest features live ice-carvings at various times, as well as several illuminated sculptures. Pop in and out of local stores and browse through local vendors offering their quality goods! Top off your day in a horse-drawn sleigh as you glide through historic Oakland. Experience our great small town at its winter peak!
Deep Creek Dunk
Jumping into the icy waters of Deep Creek Lake every year in February are the brave souls supporting a great cause! The Maryland State Police/Natural Resources Police Deep Creek Dunk raises money for the Maryland Special Olympics, providing much needed funds to athletes who participate in sports training and athletic competition in several Olympic-type sports. The dunk is held at the lakefront of UNO’s and the Honi Honi bar, with live music and other events taking place throughout the weekend.
WGW Community Youth Cup
Entering its 5th year, the WGW Community Youth Cup will be held June 24-25. Supporting three local charities, Samantha Funding the Arts, Landon’s Library, and the Andrew S. Woods Foundation, this weekend of golf and fun has donated more than $250,000 back to the community. The weekend’s events include a two-course tournament, a silent auction, a helicopter golf ball drop, and a color run! Registration is now open.
Gran Fondo Bike Race
The Gran Fondo Bike Race is slated for June 24-25. With seven KOM climbs conquering 4700’ and more than 13 miles, there are more timed climbs than any other Gran Fondo! Four of the seven climbs are new in 2016, including one up Overlook Pass. This year’s event has tons of big changes, including a new start/finish spot, new routes on different roads, and more climbs than ever! Registration is now open. For more information, click here.
July 4th
Celebrate Independence Day the Deep Creek Way! The Fourth of July is always a great time to visit Deep Creek Lake. Several local businesses hold their own events, but the main event is Fire on the Mountain on July 4th! Fireworks are set off from Wisp Resort and sparkle over the water for the entire lake area to see. There is also a large fireworks display at Broadford Park in Oakland on July 3rd. Both of these events are weather dependent and usually rescheduled for the following day. Updates on the status of the fireworks the day of will be broadcasted on local radio stations.
Art in the Park
Art along the shores of Deep Creek Lake, it doesn’t get much better! Come out July 9-10 to browse through several artists’ work, local food vendors, and explore the park exhibit tent! The park tent will feature live animals from turtles to birds. There will also be a child-centered art tent. In addition to the art displays and shopping, there will also be a silent auction.
Garrett County Agricultural Fair
A local favorite, the 2016 Garrett County Agricultural Fair will be held July 30- August 6. Get the full carnival effect testing your bravery on the rides or try your luck at the game booths. Browse through local arts and crafts and the county’s best livestock, everything from horses to rabbits! Perhaps the best part is sampling the food, with most of the permanent stands benefiting local organizations and charities.
